About Me & What I Do
Joy Nussen Timsit, M.A., LMFT
I believe we all possess the answers inside of us to the questions that bring us to therapy and that my role as your therapist is to facilitate your discovery of that inner wisdom.
I search for the talents and life skills you have inherently developed over time, and offer new perspectives to enable you to effectively apply them in the areas of your life that you determine needs attention.
Through proven therapeutic modalities, I have a toolkit of alternatives to talking when words are difficult to offer and I have found great success in working within the language of metaphors.
In my 25+ years of experience as a mental health professional, I have learned that no two individuals are on the same life journey and that there are no one-size-fits-all treatment plans. Auditory (listening, talking), Visual (observing, reading) and Experiential (kinesthetic/hands-on) modalities are all incorporated into my practice because we all have different preferences.
The majority of my clients are young adult men and women of diverse cultures seeking tools for managing anger, anxiety, depression, substance addiction, strained relationships, and recovery from traumatic events in their lives.
Legendary psychiatrist and Holocaust-survivor Viktor Frankl said: “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response and in our response lies our growth and our freedom.”
I look forward to the honor of holding space with you as you journey toward inner peace.
Experiential therapeutic approaches encourages the identification and resolution of hidden
or subconscious issues through hands-on activities such as:
Horse Path Healing™
Sometimes we just don't have the words to describe our inner experience and sometimes we may feel that talking about "it" just isn't enough. Horse Path Healing™ is a projective therapeutic tool that allows one to connect with conscious and unconscious contents through visual stimulation and imagination.
When something is "on your mind," it can also impact your body and spirit. EMDR is a non-verbal intervention that has proven to be helpful in healing the body, mind, and spirit with resulting improved relationships and inner peace.
What we see and experience can cause trauma and as a result, we may behave in ways that recreates our own psychic pain. Sand Tray Therapy is a hands-on therapeutic tool that integrates the brain to process trauma nonverbally resulting in better thoughts, feelings, and actions.
